01 — Format Positioning

Two formats for two retail channels.

Single-serve for bottle shops. Sharing format for tap-rooms and farmer’s markets.

The Australian RTD cocktail market is growing at ~9% CAGR, with retail value crossing $1B in 2024. Clear PET is the format winning trial because consumers can see colour, garnish (citrus peel, herbs) and infusion clarity at point of purchase — something aluminium hides entirely.

Single-serve
500ml
  • Bottle-shop fridge standard
  • Shelf next to craft beer 500ml
  • Premium price tier (~$8–14)
  • 200/CTN, 55 × 168mm
Sharing format
700ml
  • Two-serve at tap-rooms / markets
  • Premium gift / hospitality SKU
  • Higher AOV per unit
  • 100/CTN, 55 × 188mm

Both sizes use the same 55mm aluminium lid — one seamer setup runs both SKUs. See full size matrix →

02 — Why Clear PET for Cocktails

Aluminium hides the product. PET sells it.

Three reasons RTD cocktail brands are switching from aluminium to clear PET.

1. Visual storytelling — the product is the marketing. Garnish-forward cocktails (cucumber, basil, citrus peel) lose 80% of their visual story inside an aluminium can. Clear PET keeps the colour gradient, the bubbles, the infusion intact on shelf — converting browsers to buyers without needing premium printing.

2. Lower MOQ + faster shelf trials. Aluminium custom printing requires 10,000+ unit MOQ and 8–12 week lead times. White-label clear PET ships from Melbourne in 1–2 days — allowing trial runs from a few cartons. Sleeve labels handle branding at any volume.

3. Liquor licensing — clear cans are not regulated differently from aluminium. RTD cocktails in PET are subject to the same alcohol service laws as any other format. Most state liquor authorities don’t restrict packaging material; check container deposit scheme rules in your sales states.

03 — RTD Brand FAQ

What cocktail brands ask first.

Can I sell PET-canned cocktails through bottle shops?

Yes — bottle shops sell PET-packaged RTD cocktails. Your liquor licence is the main requirement, not the packaging format. Most state liquor licensing authorities don’t restrict PET as a packaging material. Confirm Container Deposit Scheme registration in each state you distribute to (10¢/container).

Does PET affect cocktail shelf life?

For standard RTD cocktails (alcoholic, sealed, refrigerated or shelf-stable depending on recipe): PET-canned shelf life is typically 6–9 months. PET has slightly higher oxygen permeability than aluminium — for high-tannin or wine-based cocktails consider aluminium for >12 month shelf goals.

What ABV range works best?

PET is chemically inert to ethanol at all RTD-relevant concentrations (4–15% ABV). No flavour migration, no scalping issues at standard ABVs. Spirit-forward RTDs (15%+) perform identically to aluminium in taste-panel testing.

Can I custom-print my brand on PET cans?

Two routes: (a) full-wrap printed cans on indent — 10,000 unit MOQ, 10–12 week lead time; (b) shrink sleeves over white-label PET — any volume, 2–3 week turnaround. See custom branding options →

Are PET cans recyclable through Container Deposit Schemes?

Yes — PET cans are accepted under all state Container Deposit Schemes (NSW, QLD, ACT, SA, WA, NT, VIC) when registered. Registration is per-product through each state’s scheme operator. Your CDS approval number must be printed on the can.
