01 — Size & Format

Three Saturn PET sizes built for kombucha.

The most common formats Australian kombucha brewers run. Pick by retail channel.

Saturn’s kombucha-focused range gives you three single-serve sizes and one large-format share size. All four pair with the same 55mm aluminium lid — the only consumable you need to stock for canning runs.

Specialty & café
330ml slim
Premium shelf appeal. Slim profile next to legacy glass — reads like a craft soda or hard seltzer.
Standard retail
355ml
12oz industry standard. Multi-pack friendly. Easy comparison to mainstream RTD shelves.
Large format
500ml
Single-can serve for premium customers. Tap-room and farmer’s market favourite.

All three use the same 55mm aluminium lid — one seamer setup, no proprietary tooling. See full size matrix.

02 — Why PET for Kombucha

Lighter than glass. Brighter than aluminium.

Three production-line reasons kombucha brewers switch from glass to clear PET.

1. Ship-weight savings vs glass — up to 65% lighter. Each glass 330ml bottle weighs ~240g; the equivalent PET can is ~22g. For a pallet of 1,000 SKUs, that’s 220kg saved — significant on interstate freight.

2. Crystal-clear PET shows live colour and turbidity. Aluminium hides the contents; glass shows them. PET sits between the two on cost while keeping the product visible — matters for brews where colour signals flavour (turmeric, hibiscus, butterfly pea).

3. BPA-free + food-grade safe for fermented drinks. All Saturn PET cans are manufactured from food-grade BPA-free PET resin meeting FDA and Australian food contact regulations. Suitable for live, sealed kombucha pasteurised or unpasteurised — though shelf-stability rules still apply (see FAQ).

03 — Brewer FAQ

What kombucha makers ask before their first carton.

Is PET safe for live kombucha?

Yes — food-grade BPA-free PET is approved for fermented beverages including kombucha. However, continued fermentation produces CO2. Plan for either: (a) pasteurise before canning, (b) cold-chain distribution, or (c) refrigerated retail. PET can flex under sustained pressure if not chilled.

What’s the typical shelf life of PET-canned kombucha?

Pasteurised kombucha in PET typically holds 3–6 months at retail shelf temp. Live (unpasteurised) kombucha in PET runs 4–8 weeks refrigerated. Pressure-test 2 weeks of fridge storage on each new recipe before launching to retail.

Can I custom-print kombucha labels?

Two options: full-wrap printed cans on indent (10,000 unit MOQ, 10–12 week lead) or shrink sleeves / stickers for small batches over white-label PET. See custom branding options.

What about CO2 retention vs aluminium?

PET has slightly higher gas permeability than aluminium — expect 1–3% CO2 loss per month at refrigerated storage. For kombucha at retail shelf-life under 2 months, this is negligible. For longer shelf goals, aluminium remains the gold standard.

Do you sell aluminium lids separately?

Saturn cans ship with matching 55mm aluminium lids in coordinated cartons. Replacement lids and bulk lid orders are available — email our team.
